Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-20)
Commonly known among Christians as the “Great Commission”, it is the charge given by Christ to the disciples outlining the work He is leaving for them. At First Baptist, we believe that for the centuries of time the emphasis has been placed more on the “baptism” portion of the commission than the “teaching” or disciplining component.
While there is much to do, we seek to disciple Christians through our Wednesday evening Bible study and small groups as well as through the Sunday morning Bible study sessions.
Overseeing this part of ministry is the Discipleship Development Council. Still in its “infancy”, this team serves as the leadership and planning group for this particular ministry of the church. This team is constantly looking at ways to further the command to “teach” and develop true disciples at First Baptist Church.
